Why the Chopard couture collection presented at Cannes is worth a detour

Since 1998, Chopard has designed the emblematic Palme d’Or Cannes Film Festival. House of jewelry Switzerland, which also sublimates most celebrities to red carpet Cannes of its own jewelry, now offers a complete wardrobe. As evidenced by this second couture collection presented at the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc, in Antibes, on May 21. Signed by Caroline Scheufele, artistic director and co-president of Chopard, this dominantly feminine wardrobe still includes 5 masculine looks, but above all 77 couture creations. 77 as the 77th year of the Cannes Film Festival. The timeless “Fairytale” – as the title of the collection reminds – in which high-profile celebrities flocked to the top Bella Hadid to the president of the jury of the 77the edition of the Cannes Film Festival, Greta Gerwig.

At the beginning of this Chopard couture line, which was inaugurated in May 2023 at the Hotel Martinez, is Caroline Scheufele. The 62-year-old businesswoman surrounded herself with the best French, Italian and Swiss sewing workshops, embroiderers and feather workers to design the pieces: “Although I work with the greatest couturiers, I often noticed that my creations, which are fine and delicate, were not in perfect harmony with necklines or color ranges of their creations”, the main interested party described in detail. The line called “Caroline’s Couture” and which, unsurprisingly, was primarily designed to highlight Chopard’s jewelry creations. This is how the aesthetic that leads to dreams and magic is used, a lexical field closely related to the world of Chopard.

“I wanted to take on a new challenge: step out of my comfort zone, expand the world of Chopard into couture, develop fabrics with shades that reflect those of the precious stones in our jewelry, work with such talented artisans as our artisan jewelers and imagine dresses and models in perfect in line with my high jewelry collections,” explained Caroline Scheufele. If the dresses are enough to make the biggest fashion houses on the Place Vendôme blush, the men’s part of the collection, produced in collaboration with the Cifonelli workshop, is not to be missed. Among men’s silhouettes, we particularly highlight this perfectly executed green tuxedo, which serves as a frame for a set with emeralds. And how can we not mention this other flawless combination, enhanced by Chopard’s rose-shaped brooch?

Casual outfits also have their place in Chopard’s wardrobe. Without taking anything away from the elegance that makes up the reputation of the Swiss house. One of the men’s silhouettes, for example, consists of a midnight blue shirt with an open collar and black suit pants, which are very chic. A collection like a waking dream that Caroline Scheufele summed up as follows: “What I hope is that many women like my collections, order dresses and enjoy wearing them as much as I do”.
