Diourbel reveals the predominance of women in the region

The National Agency for Statistics and Demography (ANSD) of Senegal published this Wednesday, June 12, 2024, the official results of the General Census of Population and Households (Rpgh) for the year 2023.
Among the studied regions, that of Diourbel has attracted particular attention for its surprising demographic data.

The department of Mbacké within Diourbel, stands out with a total population of 1,359,756 inhabitants. An intriguing observation is the dominance of women in this place, with 687,571 women compared to 672,185 men.

This trend is particularly pronounced in AR district. N’DAME, TOUBA MOSQUE municipality, where the population reaches 1,120,824 inhabitants, including 570,259 women and 550,565 men.

Analyzing the data by department, it seems that Mbacké, followed by Diourbel, concentrates the largest number of inhabitants.

The department of Mbacké has 344,109 inhabitants, with a slight predominance of men, while Diourbel has a total of 376,467 inhabitants, with a larger gap between men and women.

The demographic gap between the sexes is particularly noticeable throughout the Diourbel region. With a total of 2,080,332 inhabitants, of which 1,050,581 are women and 1,029,751 men, the difference is in favor of women of 20,830 inhabitants.

In summary, these results emphasize the importance of understanding local demographic dynamics to guide public policies and development programs.

The predominance of women in the Diourbel region could require special attention in terms of access to education, health and employment in order to ensure gender equality and promote the well-being of the entire population.
