A few months after the Edge 50 series went official, Motorola is back to stock up on new features. The manufacturer, a subsidiary of Lenovo, lifts the veil on two foldable smartphones (Razr 50 Ultra in review here AND Razr 50), an affordable smartphone and a promising accessory.
Mentioned a few months ago, the Moto Tag is finally official and this tracker has just followed in the footsteps of Apple’s AirTag.
A Moto Tag (or Moto Tag) is a Bluetooth tracking signal that can track objects that are most important to users. These can be keys, wallets, bicycles, connected accessories or even luggage. The design of the tag is quite classic, with a prominent Motorola logo in a round format that inevitably resembles the AirTag.
Motorola says its Moto Tag is compatible with most third-party accessories available on the market, including cases. The small gadget is IP67 certified, which allows it to be better resistant to dust and even submerge in fresh water up to 1 meter deep for 30 minutes. It weighs only 7.3 grams.
A tracking solution based on Google’s Find My Device network
To be relevant, these little trackers need a strong enough network. Moto Tag uses the power of the new Google Find My Device network and UWB technology to provide tracking. It is therefore part of the Motorola ecosystem of devices that revolve around Android, but is compatible with most Android smartphones in circulation.
Motorola’s small device is therefore not limited to the manufacturer’s – relatively limited – fleet, but to Google’s mobile OS. The American giant, which recently expanded Find My Device worldwide, can claim to have the largest network in the world.
The Find My Device network requires a smartphone with at least Android 9, as well as activation of location services and Bluetooth. It also relies on Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity, while UWB-compatible models offer even more precise tracking. At Motorola, the Edge 50 Ultra falls squarely into this last category.
The Moto Tag can also ring a lost smartphone by simply pressing a dedicated button. The latter is intended to be multi-purpose and can also be used as a remote control for taking photos via an Android smartphone.
Motorola hints that its Moto Tag will arrive in France in July. The manufacturer will offer its tracking accessory at a price of 39 euros, or 139 euros for a package of four trackers. He adds that the Moto Tag has a CR2032 battery designed to last all year and is easily replaceable.
Moto G85 5G: arriving in France in July
The release of the Moto Tag will accompany the release of the Moto G85 5G, a new affordable smartphone. It takes its place in the manufacturer’s Moto G series and has a relatively classic design for a subsidiary of Lenovo. The device, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5, offers a 6.67-inch pOLED screen that displays in Full HD+ up to 120 Hz on this model.
Under the hood we find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 with up to 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. It is possible to add a microSD card up to 1 TB to store documents, pictures, videos or applications.
For photography, Motorola integrates a 50 Mpx Sony LYT-600 sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS). It adds an 8MP ultra-wide camera with macro function and a 32MP front-facing camera for selfies.
Finally, this smartphone arrives with a 5000 mAh battery. It will be compatible with the manufacturer’s 30W TurboPower technology. Motorola will be back in July to announce the exact price of this model that will be released in France. According to our information, it will be available for sale from 330 euros.
