How this woman’s debt was written off

Many new pensioners have found themselves in a situation where they have to pay back amounts of up to 100,000 euros to France Travail due to a major breakdown. After seeking debt relief, some of them succeeded. You will have to wait for others.

For these thousands of pensioners in question, it all started in 2022, when the information held by the Pension and Health Insurance Fund (Carsat) was integrated into the France Travail (formerly Pôle Emploi) database. Due to the significant time lag, these former workers continued to receive unemployment benefits when they were due to retire.

Because of these delays, which range from several months to several years, the people concerned continued to receive payments from France Travail when they should have been receiving an old-age pension instead.

After the error was discovered, France Travail called on the new pensioners to compensate the amounts they received unjustly. The amounts range from 4,000 to 100,000 euros.

For many retirees, returning such sums is unbelievable. Especially since during the entire period during which they continued to receive payments from France Travail, they did not receive their pensions.

Among proposed solutions by the operator, the possibility of requesting a discount or even debt write-off. That’s exactly what Isabelle did. The latter received an e-mail in which she was invited to compensate the amount of 9,178.26 euros, according to TF1, which reported her case.

After requesting a write-off of the debt, the person in question succeeded. “France Travail has decided to reconsider its position, your debt has been cancelled,” read the email received by Isabelle, reported by TF1.

The files of many pensioners are being re-examined by France Travail

But everything pensioners in question they have not yet received a favorable response. This applies especially to Philippe, who, like Isabelle, was called by the operator to return the unjustly collected money. In the case of Philippe, France Travail assures TF1 that his file will be re-examined in July,

For pensioners who are victims of this dysfunction, it will therefore be necessary to be patient as France Travail has to re-examine more than 150,000 files. In addition to cost recovery, retirees affected by this mistake face another problem: pensions owed to them but never paid.

It turns out that things are a little more complicated at this level. “In very exceptional cases, retroactivity of retirement is possible,” he explained Pension Insurance.
