The wave of indignation of journalist actors is not abating! It is about journalist Bachir Fofana to join other colleagues who condemned the departure of President Pastef this Sunday at the Grand Théâtre during a conference facing JPS.
“The prime minister is expected to make his statement on general policy. We need to know where he intends to take us. So far it is difficult to get an idea about his PROJECT which in my opinion is “Naxee MBaaye”.
In the absence of a general political declaration, it is a declaration of war that he presented to the press…” lamented Bachir Fofana who spoke about Ousmane Sonko’s speech.
According to the journalist, “Senegalese do not want to see a prime minister who always acts as an opponent of the government.” He has not yet realized that his primary concern is to deal with the urgent situations of the day… his energy and his time must not be used to understand this press which is not his enemy.
The press is there to be the conscience of power. He must be reminded of his obligations,” he will say, given that the same press that stood up until some became as confused as Pastef’s supporters seems to be under threat.
Journalists have taken a stand around Sonko to such an extent that they distort ethics and professional behavior in the processing of information. We must not open a permanent conflict, believes Bachir Fofana, who reminds that journalists must know that their job is to be the conscience of the people in power and to do the work of journalists.
“You should know that what hurts Ousmane Sonko is his VARs reminding him. Today, the VAR discipline is in the press because we are talking about a quick check.
Ousmane Sonko has done nothing to restore the dignity of journalists. “Everyone saw him as an opponent, giving interviews only to the media favorable to him,” insists the journalist.
Regarding the tax situation in the media, journalist Bachir Fofana believes that it must be resolved: “all economic entities must pay taxes. I do not agree with the tax amnesty. This encourages mediocrity. But what is needed is media-specific taxation.
We call on Ousmane Sonko to join forces with media players in order to jointly find amicable solutions to the problems…but we will not be able to solve this situation by threatening journalists”, he concludes.
