Jaeger-LeCoultre makes us travel with its new Polaris Geographic watch

Under the roofs of factories Jaeger Lecoultrein Vallée de Joux, in Swiss, the experts are busy producing all the parts of the new watch: the Polaris Geographic. Because since 1903, the brand strives to offer exceptional watches, every component of which it manufactures, from the crystal to the caliber.

In 2018, the brand brought back the Polaris collection, in homage to diving watches of the same name at its peak in the 1960s, the new 42mm models, version 2024, take on the characteristics of their predecessors such as off-centered crowns and skeletonized hands that point to unique elongated trapezoidal indices. Each iteration of the new collection embodies the spirit of adventure, through the signature Jaeger-LeCoultre complication. After Polaris Date and Polaris Calendar, it is a geographical complication adopted by the watch. The sporty and elegant appearance of the watch and its two interchangeable straps made of textured black rubber or blue-gray canvas hide quite exceptional functionality.

Jaeger-LeCoultre geographical complication, a traveler’s dream

In the lower part of the dial, in the minutes, there is a window in which the names of 24 different cities are printed. Each of them is connected to its own time zone, to which the watch is adjusted by turning the second crown of the watch, the one located at 10 o’clock. Accuracy is guaranteed to the nearest second. This feature allows all travelers to set their watch without having to calculate the time difference once! This complication is made possible by the Jaeger-LeCoultre caliber 939, which can be seen under the crystal case back. With its 70-hour power reserve, the movement is a real gem, decorated and made to watch in motion.

The Polaris Geographic dial is a dive into the ocean

The lacquered dial of the Polaris Geographic features a new ocean gray color. It evokes stormy Atlantic weather with its gray blue color in the middle, which fades to dark gray, ending with a shiny black rail at the end of the circle. The depth that the dial gets from the color work is enhanced with 30 layers of satin lacquer carefully applied on top. Everything has been done to best adapt to the special architecture of the dial, with its main counter, linked to the selected city, as well as the auxiliary counter at 6 o’clock, manually adjustable. Next to it, on the left, a small 24-hour counter, as well as a power reserve, contrasted against a gray background in orange. It is beautiful.
