LGV Toulouse-Bordeaux: 86% of South West residents support the project, according to a poll

A new survey conducted by Odoxa among the residents of the south-west shows the interest of residents in the GPSO project, which envisages a high-speed line between Toulouse and Bordeaux and between Bordeaux and Dax. 86% of respondents approve of this project, on which work has just begun.

A new interest survey for the Toulouse-Bordeaux and Bordeaux-Dax LGVs was presented this Friday. It was commissioned by SNCF Réseau and carried out by Odoxa on a sample of 1,994 residents of the south-west, including 1,057 residents of the former Aquitaine region and 937 residents of the former Midi-Pyrénées region, once again showing that the vast majority of residents are in favor of it.

When asked whether you are for or against this project, the vast majority (86%) answered yes. The membership rate reaches as high as 91% in the former Midi-Pyrénées. In the Aquitaine region, the level is 81%. According to the results of the survey, 59% of respondents say they have heard of this connectivity project called GPSO (Grand Projet Sud Ouest).

Depending on the political color of the respondents, we see that supporters of the Renaissance (92%) and Republicans (91%) are most inclined to this new line. Less enthusiastically, Insoumis supporters and environmentalists still largely approve of the project with 76% and 79% support, respectively.

The main arguments cited by respondents to justify this LGV are “bringing Bordeaux and Toulouse closer within one hour” (36%), “saving time on all journeys with better connections” (35%), “better connections between cities and the South West area” (35%) and “reduction of congestion in road, truck and car traffic” (29%).

85% of those surveyed believe that the line “will enable a better connection between northern and southern Europe”, 86% that it will “bring the cities of southwestern France closer to the rest of France and Spain”.

Carole Delga: “These numbers confirm that we made the right choice”

A few weeks after the first poll which revealed that almost 80% of the French favor this fast line, this new poll conducted this time among the residents of the south-west, confirms the very high expectations and the approval of the first concerned with 86% approving GPSO. Carole Delga, president of the Occitanie region, evaluates these results positively: “We didn’t doubt it, but these figures once again confirm our vision for the future of the territory and mobility.”

They also confirm that we made the right choice. It has been a tireless and joint struggle for years, in the interest of the territory and its inhabitants, to bring the Great Southwest Railway Project to fruition. The result is clear, more than 8 out of 10 residents are waiting for this LGV.”

Carole Delga continues: “Showing the relevance of the Toulouse-Bordeaux-Dax LGV and while the European Commission will soon discuss the budget allocated to transport, this research is a strong signal sent to the European institutions.”
