Obituary: Albert Ruiz, former mayor

Albert Ruiz, born on December 12, 1954, died on Tuesday, June 5. He started his military career in 1972, and partially finished it in 2007 in the Air Force, from which year until 2019 he serves as a reservist.

Elected mayor of the commune of Goncourt since 2008, he defended the values ​​of pooling resources and the idea of ​​new communes. Albert has always been dedicated to his territory, putting himself at the service of the city and its residents without counting the hours and on multiple levels.

Especially for children and schools, through the former Sivos de Goncourt-Harréville of which he was a part, a commitment recognized by the various teachers who worked with him.

Albert was also involved in local sports life, he was part of the pillars of the Goncourt football club, starting the paragliding zone project in Bourmont, with the help of friends from clubs that deal with this discipline, as well as the future Goncourt nautical base.

An economic and tourism visionary, a lover of the history of his village, he is also, with the association History and Heritage, at the beginning of the Goncourt house, a local cultural place where events and exhibitions are held, where the space is dedicated to the Goncourt brothers and where a media library is installed.

He could also hear the demands of motorhome drivers passing through the village, sparking a discussion about creating a reception area for them that is now very busy and enhanced by an equally busy play area.

Through all the projects he implemented, Albert showed a deep desire to promote the territory and its heritage.

His loved ones will remember him as a great person, very dedicated, easy to contact and open and honest character. He was a good listener and knew how to care for others and always tried to find the best solution to any problem he encountered.

His funeral was celebrated in family privacy. Our condolences to his family and loved ones.
