CANNES FESTIVAL – I Queer Palm is awarded…. Three kilometers to the end of the world. The film of Romanian Emanuel Parvu receives this alternative award every year on Friday, April 24 in Cannes feature film dealing with LGBTQI+ issues.

This film shows the destructiveness of homophobia in a country where only the beauty of nature softens the weight of tradition. The story of Adi, 17, who spends the summer in his native village located in the Danube Delta.

One evening he is violently attacked in the street. The next day, his world turns completely upside down, his parents no longer look at him like before and the apparent peace of the village begins to crack. Because the investigation into his attack reveals homophobic motive.

The embodiment of Romanian society

In this drama, “I wanted to embody Romanian society so that we have a church with a priest, a law with a policeman and a small society with a family. I wanted the mother to embody society in a broader sense, and the father to embody the sphere of the family.”the director, also an actor, told AFP.

This year’s Queer Palm jury was chaired by Belgian director Lukas Dhont (“Close”, “A girl”), who had to decide between 18 feature films in all sections combined.
