Roland Kuster was born on January 4, 1947 in Ingwiller, to parents Edwiga Rauscher and René Charles Kuster, and then to his two sisters Brigitte and Astrid. Two sons born from the first marriage, Thierry and Alain, died. Having married Dominique in 1987, he had a daughter, Julie, the same year. Three grandchildren, Lucille, Matheo and Jade, made him proud.
A mechanic by profession, he spent his career at De Dietrich. At the same time, he distinguished himself in the world of car racing. He was also crowned champion of France in 1987, behind the wheel of his Martini MK36. He multiplied his exploits at the regional and national level, achieving a total of 96 victories in seven years, and excelled in competitions in Belgium and Luxembourg.
A car accident stopped his ascent on June 24, 1994 and left him confined to a wheelchair. He then invested in his community. Messti, the Easter market… In 1996, Mayor Robert Kaeufling asked him to work in the municipal office for sports, arts and leisure during the holidays. He is especially at the beginning of the Street Festival. He also served as a municipal councilor from 2014 to 2020.
As a community servant, he was a volunteer at the Summerlied festival in Ohlungen, where he hosted “jokes” in Alsatian. He also founded his own association, Écurie Rochette Handicap, named after his former motoring team: it collects aluminum cans across northern Alsace, recycles them and raises funds to help people in wheelchairs.
Roland Kuster was made a Knight of the National Order of Merit in 2009, “a medal he was very proud of,” said his daughter Julie, who was by his side when he passed away at Hautepierre Hospital. .
