The storms persist this Sunday, May 19, throughout France. 76 departments are placed on yellow alert.
Storms continue to hit France this Sunday, May 19. Many of them will form in the afternoon and others are expected in the evening, according to Météo-France.
“Storms break out everywhere,” underlines the forecaster. 76 departments are therefore placed on yellow alert. Almost the entire territory is affected, apart from the borders of the Mediterranean, the south of the Alps, the north of the Hauts-de-France and the center-east of the country.
Less virulent storms at night
In the South-West, “the storms become more virulent” as the day goes on, warns Météo France. It could fall “up to 20 mm to 30 mm” in an hour, or up to 30 liters of water per square meter in a short time. The wind could “temporarily reach 60 km/h to 70 km/h” in gusts. And hail is also likely to fall.
Stormy developments concern in particular “the regions that go from Brittany and the Pays de la Loire to the Ile-de-France and the Grand-Est”, specifies Météo France.
And he added: “In the evening and during the night, the storms are less virulent, but the rains persist, especially in New Aquitaine. For its part, the Keraunos observatory warns of the risk of tornadoes, possible in the Southwest .
Another asset, a little less exposed to this risk, is nevertheless concerned. It goes from Brittany to Burgundy, passing through Pays de la Loire, Centre-Val de Loire, the south of Île-de-France, Aube and Haute-Loire.
