On Tuesday, May 21, the department celebrated the 30th anniversary of its literary contest dedicated to Occitan in the presence of many residents of Gers.
The multi-purpose room of the ward council was full this Tuesday evening for the award ceremony for the Occitan enunciation competition. Literary competition of the Ministry in cooperation with National Education, the aim of which is to encourage and reward writing in Occitan.
The president of the departmental council congratulated the winners in the preamble, for this special ceremony because it was the 30th anniversary. “Occitan is now the language of part of the youth,” he rejoiced, recalling that almost 600,000 people today speak Occitan in the southwest. “It is a language that is thriving in the department, with the 4th cycle of French Occitan opening this year.”
This year, high school students greatly contributed to the success of this competition, with the production of 55 written and artistic works.
A book published for this occasion
Yvette Ribes, vice president in charge ofEducation, Youth Colleges and Occitan also welcomed “the strong presence of young people, who have never been so numerous”.
This ceremony of the competition was an opportunity to present the collection specially published for the thirtieth anniversary. This collection brings together award-winning productions from the last 10 editions of the adult competition. “The themes that have most inspired the winners in recent years have been advertising, gluttony and music,” explained Yvette Ribes.
