There is still time for Joe Biden to give up his seat to beat Trump

There is only good news after the televised debate it marked Joe Biden’s shaky performance : it was held in June. If the outgoing president were forced to step down, there would be two months left until the Democratic convention (August 19-22, where the party’s candidate will be officially chosen).

For the Biden faithful, who have always been quick to silence anyone who expresses even the slightest doubt about his candidacy, this Thursday night will be the moment of truth.

For more than a year, the question of the president’s age has occupied all private conversations in Washington. Officially, however, the silence remained firm.

This inconsistency just failed. Now it remains to be seen whether it is possible to convince Biden to throw in the towel.

Only he can make this decision. After crushing the competition (during the primaries) within his own party, Joe Biden would be right to ignore calls to withdraw from the race.

Other potential contenders for the Democratic nomination, including governors Gavin Newsom (California) and Gretchen Whitmer (Michigan), are unlikely to run: the risk is too great to come off as traitors and destroy their presidential chances.

There is no committee of sages in the Democratic Party with the necessary authority to convince Biden to back down. He is also himself
